Did you know?
Most ice melters sold by retailers have salt in their formulas, which can irritate the paws of your pets. You may think Rock Salt is the only ice melter that has sodium chloride (Na) in it’s formula, but you would be wrong! One of the most common examples is Safe Step. Most of Safe Step’s products contain Potassium Chloride (KCl), which is safe to use on most concrete surfaces. Safe Step also claims it is safe for kids and pets. The fact is their formula contains more than just Potassium Chloride (KCl). They still use small crystals of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) in their formula to keep the cost down.
While Safe Step’s formula may not hurt some larger dogs paws that are tougher, most pets will still be irritated by the small salt crystals (NaCl) getting up between their paws and nails leading to dermatilis inflammation. In addition, dogs tend to walk around and ingest snow and ice melter products. This can lead to serious gastrointestinal problems including vomiting and internal burns of the mouth and digestive tract.
What should I use?
Safe Paw is a 100% salt free solution that is pet, kid and environmentally safe! It is comprised of crystalline amide core infused glycols, which provide a non-corrosive time-released action. Unlike other ice melters, Safe Paw gives off no heat. Safe Paw has been recommended by veterinarians, animal hospitals, groomers, humane societies and shelters for years.
I don’t know if I want to spend this kind of money on ice melter.
While Safe Paw is more expensive, it is a 100% salt free solution. Plus, unlike rock salt and other cheaper ice melters that you need to apply heavy amounts of product to melt the ice, you only need to use a small amount of Safe Paw to get the same results!
