According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 50 million adults in the U.S. have arthritis. Of those with the condition, one in three face work limitations due to joint pain.
The Arthritis Foundation says arthritis sufferers can help ease at-work discomfort by taking a few easy steps including ensuring their work station is set up efficiently and alternating between sitting and standing every half hour or so.
For those with jobs that require standing, experts say the use of an anti-fatigue floor mat such as the Gel Pro Chef's Mat may help reduce arthritis pain.
Gel Pro Mats are manufactured from a shock absorbing gel, which helps displace the body's weight evenly over the entire foot. This effectively reduces the strain associated with prolonged stationary standing.
These mats are ideal for anyone who spends a lot of time on his or her feet, and can be especially helpful for individuals who suffer from back pain, arthritis or joint pain in their ankles or knees.
Gel Pro Mats are available in basket-weave and wicker patterns as well as a variety of colors to match any décor.
In addition, they are durable, stain-resistant and easy to clean. They also feature a non-slip bottom and anti-microbial additives to prevent mold and mildew from forming on the bottom of the mat.

While research hasn't proven it, many arthritis sufferers say the cold weather can worsen symptoms of joint pain and discomfort.
According to Prevea.com, those suffering from the condition can alleviate pain during the winter months by taking a few preventative measures. These include dressing in layers to protect body tissue, avoiding rapid temperature transitions, staying active, stretching and eliminating caffeine, alcohol and nicotine.
Taking warm baths or using a heating pad can also help ease pain, while cold treatments like ice packs can reduce inflammation and swelling.
Individuals with arthritis may also benefit from using an anti-fatigue floor mat such as a Gel Pro Chef's Mat.
Gel Pro Mats are manufactured from a proprietary shock absorbing gel, which helps displace the body's weight evenly over the entire foot, effectively reducing the strain associated with prolonged stationary standing.

A recent study published in the journal Arthritis Care & Research has linked flat feet with knee osteoarthritis.
According to Reuters, researchers studied 1,900 adults aged 50 and older. They found that those with the flattest feet were 31 percent more likely to say they had knee pain on most days. And they were 43 percent more likely to show damage to the cartilage at the inside of the knee.
"When your feet flatten, it can change your posture or the way you move," the study's lead author, K. Douglas Gross, told the news source.
He explained that over time the way flat-footed people stand may cause the lower leg to rotate inward and cause damage to the cartilage of the inner knee.
Knee osteoarthritis is a common condition that is estimated to affect nearly 9 million Americans.
While medication and physical therapy are often prescribed to help treat the condition, others may choose to help alleviate pain in their joints by using a Gel Pro Chef's Mat.

Many of us experience back pain and other discomfort when standing for long periods of time. In fact, in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that about 46 million Americans suffer from arthritis, and Newsweek reports that 65 million Americans suffer from back pain.
These aches and pains were the impetus for the creation of Gel Pro Chef's Mats.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Robb McMahan, an engineer from Texas, set out to create a comfortable, functional kitchen mat after his wife complained of pain after preparing a Thanksgiving meal in 2002.
"We were having Thanksgiving dinner, and it was one of these deals where after spending four, five, six hours cooking she said, 'My back and feet are killing me. Go buy one of those foam kitchen mats,'" McMahan told the newspaper.
After experimenting with a few different models, the McMahans were not satisfied.
So Robb used his engineering background to create a better, longer-lasting mat – the Gel Pro Chef's Mat.
These mats are made using a shock-absorbing gel that helps to displace the body's weight evenly over the entire foot to reduce strain.
In addition, they feature a non-slip bottom with anti-microbial additives to prevent mold and mildew. The mats are also durable and stain-resistant.
While originally made for kitchen use, these mats can be used to enhance comfort anywhere in the home or office.

For many, the holidays are greatly anticipated as they are filled with joy, family, fun and gifts. However, for those with chronic diseases, such as arthritis, the holiday season can cause stress and pain.
A recent posting on an Arthritis Foundation blog offered tips for managing arthritis pain during this busy season. They included tips for making shopping easier, such as opting to shop online rather than in stores and going out with a list to avoid long periods spent on the feet. Individuals with arthritis may also choose to use gift bags rather than wrapping paper to cut down on the time spent preparing gifts for their recipients.
When it comes to managing all of the cooking associated with the holidays, the blog suggests choosing potluck-style meals instead of doing everything yourself, doubling recipes to ensure there are leftovers, buying pre-washed and pre-chopped ingredients as well as using ergonomic kitchen tools.
Those who suffer from arthritis as well as anyone else who will be spending long periods of time on their feet this season may also choose to invest in a Gel Pro Chef's Mat to ease the stress on their joints.

Whether you're going to a holiday party or hosting one in your own home, few things are more appreciated or delicious than a beautiful platter of assorted homemade Christmas cookies.
While baking several different types of cookies can be time-consuming, hosting a holiday cookie swap can help.
According to AssociatedContent.com, the steps involved in organizing a swap are as follows:
1. Decide how many people to invite. Remember that each person brings a different type of cookie so even though more people means more baking, you'll have a greater variety.
2. Assign a number. Tell guests how many dozen cookies they're required to bring. A good rule of thumb is to bring one dozen for each guest to take home, plus a dozen for sampling at the get-together.
3. Send invitations, complete with rules. Let your fellow bakers know that store-bought or generic chocolate chip cookies aren't allowed!
While these parties can be fun, spending a lot of time baking and preparing can take a toll on the body.
